Did you know that a specific casein decapeptide with anxiolytic properties has been shown to reduce cortisol levels in healthy humans who are exposed to physical and psychological stress conditions?
It is well recognized in the scientific literature that psychological stress has significant consequences on the performance of athletes. The overtraining syndrome and some sports injuries are common manifestations of psychological stress in training. Cortisol, which is the stress hormone, is released in response to high intensity exercise. Stress and high levels of cortisol are related to changes in mood, fatigue and depression in athletes.
A recent clinical study performed on biathletes found that the mean cortisol level in athletes taking lactium® (casein hydrolysate) was significantly lower at week 4 compared to the basal level. The cortisol level was also higher in athletes taking placebo. This interesting study shows that the casein hydrolysate prevents the increase in cortisol level induced by rigorous training.
